Bill Barney

Leadership

Asian Century Equity founder William (Bill) Barney is an industry veteran who has served at the helm of some of the world’s most extensive subsea cable and infrastructure companies. During his 22-year tenure as an investor, board member and award-winning CEO in Asia, Bill has built and managed teams that consistently achieved the industry’s highest growth rates in EBITDA and revenue. He served six years as Chairman and CEO of Global Cloud Xchange and earlier ten years as CEO of Pacnet. He was previously APAC President at MCI Worldcom, VP of AMEA at Global One and held leadership roles at AT&T.
Over the past two decades, Bill has been widely recognized for his industry leadership including DataCloud Asia’s Thought Leadership awards in 2018 and Data Center Achievement Award in 2017. Earlier he was voted Best APAC Telecom Executive by CommsDay readers in 2009 and named 2008 CEO of the Year by TelecomAsia.
An advocate for regulatory and industry change and a major proponent of Cloud Computing and Open networks, Bill’s leadership extends to 8+ years on the Board of Governors for Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC) where he is currently serving as President and Chair.
Bill received his MBA from Columbia University and BA from Wesleyan University.
